Tips for Effective Communication and Preparation:
Generally, your doctor wants to understand how well your prediabetes or diabetes is controlled and whether any complications are starting or getting worse. Therefore, provide your doctor with your home blood sugar monitoring record (If you are already monitoring) and inform them about any symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or hyperglycemia (high blood sugar).
When you have prediabetes or diabetes, you should get regular lab tests: Hemoglobin A1c, fasting blood sugar test, oral glucose tolerance test, urine and blood tests for kidney function, and lipid testing, which includes cholesterol, triglycerides, and HDL. You may also need thyroid and liver tests.
People with prediabetes or diabetes should see their doctor regularly. Those with prediabetes typically need to see their doctor every 3 to 6 months. People with diabetes using insulin shots usually visit their doctor at least every month, while those managing their condition with pills or through diet alone should have an appointment at least every 1 to 2 months.

Insulin is a hormone that enables the sugar to move from the blood into your cells where it will be used to generate energy for your daily activities. People with diabetes are unable to utilize sugar due to a dysfunction with insulin.
